a avea (third-person singular present are, past participle avut) 2nd conj.

(transitive) to have
- Eu am o soră.
  - I have a sister.
(reflexive, accusative, often with cu) to stand
- a se avea bine/rău (cu cineva)
  - to be on good/bad terms (with someone)
(auxiliary) Used to form other tenses.
1. Used with past participles to form the compound perfect tense.: to have (done)
  - Eu te-am văzut pe tine.
    - I have seen you.
  - Te-a văzut pe tine?
    - Has he seen you?
2. Used with a subjunctive to form a variant of the future tense.
  - Am să te vizitez odată.
    - I will visit you sometime.
3. Used with an infinitive to form the conditional present tense.
  - Aș face-o dacă aș putea.
    - I would do it if I could.
  - Ai vrea să vii cu mine?
    - Would you like to come with me?
4. Used with fi and a past participle to form the conditional perfect tense.
  - Aș fi venit dacă aș fi avut timp.
    - I would have come if I had time.
5. Used with de and a past participle: to have to
  - Nu ai de făcut asta dacă nu vrei
    - You don't have to do this if you don't want.

The verb avea has three conjugations, shown below: one when used as a full verb or to form the future tense (el/ea are), one when forming the compound perfect tense (el/ea a) and one when forming the conditional present and past tenses (el/ea ar).
Note that the singular pluperfect forms avusem, avuseși and avuse, as well as the third plural form avuseră, are to be avoided. The forms avusesem, avuseseși, avusese and avuseseră should be used instead. See here: https://dexonline.ro/definitie/avea/paradigma.
